Paralympic officials view governor general’s polite call as productive.

Deputy Governor General Steadman Fuller held a party on Monday at King’s House in St Andrew for officials from the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Americas Paralympic Committee (APC), and the Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA).

The courtesy call, which began at 10:00 a.m., lasted around 20 minutes and was regarded as successful by those in attendance.

“It went very well, very well,” JPA President Christopher Samuda told the Jamaica Observer. “The governor general was fully briefed and, separate and apart from the brief, he is a man of understanding in terms of the Paralympic movement. He has had indirect relationships with the Paralympic movement.”

According to Samuda, the panel addressed ways to further grow the Paralympic movement.

IPC President Andrew Parsons claims that during his meetings with Fuller, he sought to persuade him that the committee is more than simply a sporting movement; it is also about social change and improving perspectives of people with disabilities.

“Persons with disabilities make up for 15 per cent of the global population,” he told the Observer.
