Para-athletes to benefit from transformative GrassRoots Project

The Grass-Roots project, just established at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, has the potential to benefit para-athletes throughout Jamaica and the Caribbean. The Grass-Roots Project is a game-changing project committed to promoting social change and inclusive sports in Jamaica. In order to develop local talent and establish Jamaica as a premier location for regional and worldwide Para Games, the project’s main goal is to build a sports facility specifically for para-athletes.

A thorough evaluation of hotels, accessible cars, and public and private sporting facilities was a crucial part of the launch. Experts Karlha Andrade (paralympic sport specialist) and Patricia Squella (universal accessibility architect) from the Americas Paralympic Committee (AmPC) and Gavern Tate (architect) and Tamara Feanny Green (project manager) from the Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA) led the evaluation. Their partnership will guarantee that Jamaica’s para-athletes receive top-notch, easily accessible facilities and services through the GrassRoots Project.

The International Paralympic Committee’s president, Andrew Parsons, highlighted Jamaica’s contribution to the Paralympic movement, which has won praise from all over the world. “Jamaica has the potential to become a regional leader in excellence and inclusivity, not only for its own athletes. This is the ideal country, the ideal hub, and the ideal time to spearhead this revolutionary period in sports. Jamaica may achieve significant social and economic progress if 15% of its people participate in sports.
