Para-athletes to benefit from Grass-Roots Project

The Grass-Roots Project, just inaugurated in Montego Bay at Sangster International Airport, has the potential to benefit para-athletes throughout Jamaica and the Caribbean.

In order to develop local talent and establish Jamaica as a premier location for regional and worldwide Para Games, the project’s main goal is to build a sports facility specifically for para-athletes.

A thorough evaluation of hotels, accessible cars, and public and private sporting facilities was a crucial part of the launch. Experts Karlha Andrade (Paralympic sport specialist) and Patricia Squella (Universal Accessibility Architect) from the Americas Paralympic Committee (AmPC), along with architects Gavern Tate and project manager Tamara Feanny Green from the Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA), led the evaluation.

In order to create just societies, Salazar promoted inclusive sports regulations and stressed the power of sport in transforming attitudes and dismantling barriers. Additionally, he emphasised CAF’s partnership with UNESCO and the AmPC to enhance national paralympic committees in the Caribbean and Jamaica by emphasising training, infrastructure, and accessible sporting environments.

The initiative was approved by Christopher Samuda, president of the Jamaican Paralympic Association.

“By guaranteeing integration and accessibility to the sport and social infrastructure, we are creating history for para-athletes in Jamaica and the Caribbean. As we begin to lay the foundation for a top-notch academy for education and personal growth in addition to sports, history is being made,” he remarked.
