The Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA) launched the St. James Parasports Federation (SJPF) on December 2, 2020 at the Holiday Inn Resort, Montego Bay in fulfilling one of its objectives of establishing in each parish a viable administrative arm of the apex body which will become an accredited member of the governing body. It is also a critical strategic objective of the JPA to decentralise para sports by spotlighting parish development outside of Kingston and St. Andrew where immeasurable athletic and administrative talents reside.
SJPF is recognised by the JPA as the responsible body for para sports in the parish of St. James and has its own executive officers, membership, constitutional framework and strategic and business development plan and initiatives. The athlete is central to the Federation’s development plans and initiatives as it seeks to transform lives in and beyond sport.
In carrying out its work, SJPF will respect, honour and promote the four values of Paralympism, namely, Courage, Determination, Inspiration and Equality and is mandated to influence policymakers of the parish that will result in greater integration and social inclusion of persons with disabilities
As Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the global governing body, advocates:
“Change starts with sport, and Para sport has a tremendous ability to change attitudes towards disability and drive social inclusion.”
SJPF consequently will accept the responsibility of making that change in the parish of St. James as it seeks to inform, educate and inspire parishioners with the vision and spirit of Paralympism.

The St. Ann Parasports Federation (SAPF) fulfills one of its objectives of the Jamaica Paralympic Association(JPS) of establishing in each parish a viable administrative arm of the apex body which will become an accredited member of the governing body. It is also a critical strategic objective of the JPA to decentralise para sports by spotlighting parish development outside of Kingston and St. Andrew where immeasurable athletic and administrative talents reside.
SAPF is recognised by the JPA as the responsible body for para sports in the parish of St. Ann and has its own executive officers, membership, constitutional framework and strategic and business development plan and initiatives. The athlete is central to the Federation’s development plans and initiatives as it seeks to transform lives in and beyond sport.
In carrying out its work, SAPF will respect, honour and promote the four values of Paralympism, namely, Courage, Determination, Inspiration and Equality and is mandated to influence policymakers of the parish that will result in greater integration and social inclusion of persons with disabilities
As Christopher Samuda, President of the Jamaica Paralympic Association(JPA), the governing national body, states:
“Transformation begins with the athlete and administrator, who must have a clear vision of transcending social and cultural barriers in educating a world which itself must recognize the value of and accepts change.”
SAPF consequently will accept the responsibility of making that change in the parish of St. Ann as it seeks to inform, educate and inspire parishioners with the vision and spirit of Paralympism.
