Leading the way: IPC President Parsons hails Jamaica’s role in development of Para sports

Andrew Parsons, president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), thinks Jamaica can play a big part in the growth of the movement in the area.

The Brazilian Parsons, who has been in charge of the IPC for over ten years, made his first trip to a Caribbean nation on Sunday when he landed in Kingston.

Parsons will meet with several local sports stakeholders during his five-day tour, including Olivia Grange, the Sports Minister, to discuss how the IPC can support the development of parasports in Jamaica.

Parsons thinks the Jamaica Paralympic Association’s (JPA) long-standing efforts should be repeated throughout the Caribbean.

“Jamaica is the leader in the development of the Paralympic movement in the Caribbean so it’s important to understand how from here we can support the other nations as well, bringing all the different nations in the Caribbean — with Jamaica leading it — to their next level of development,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
