JPA, Uber in the Driver’s Seat

Uber has renewed its partnership with the Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA), continuing as the official islandwide travel partner for the country’s governing body for para sports. The renewal builds on the original 2024 cash agreement and reflects mutual trust and an ongoing commitment from both sides to supporting para athletes’ welfare and advancement.

Under the deal, athletes and coaches who meet JPA criteria get free access to Uber for training sessions, JPA-organized competitions, and airport transfers connected to overseas conferences, games, and championships.

JPA President Christopher Samuda called it a practical, cost-saving arrangement that removes uncertainty from athletes’ travel logistics, while JPA Sport Manager and decorated Paralympian Neville Sinclair celebrated it as a historic first for the organisation. Samuda also noted that many athletes and coaches currently self-fund travel to training and competitions — costs that add to mandatory classification and licensing fees, which can be a real burden for para sport stakeholders. He framed reliable transportation as core infrastructure for athletic performance, not just a convenience.

The official launch of the expanded partnership is set for March, when full details will be announced.
